The green light has been given to plans for a sheltered accommodation development in Chester which will see around 80 apartments built on the grounds of an old school.
The site in Kingsway was once the home of Woodfield Primary School but will now be used as part of Your Housing Group’s care scheme.
The news should certainly interest builders in Chester, with increases in demand highly likely.
The development will include 27 properties with one bedroom each and another 55 with two bedrooms, all of which will be available for people over 54 with 60 percent to be rented and the rest put up for sale. Shared ownership is an option should anyone be unable to put the funds together.
The development will also feature communal facilities as well as a hair salon and numerous parking spaces.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s case officer, Nick Howard, said that four cases of objection had been put forward but that they were dwarfed by the demand for the type of housing that will soon be available.
Mr Howard feels that the development will provide just what is needed for the area’s elderly residents.
“The proposals will provide a high standing of self-contained accommodation to allow older people to continue to live independently.
“It will also contribute to meeting the challenge of ensuring there is a range of appropriate housing provision available to meet the needs and aspirations of the borough’s growing older population.”
The school has been closed since 2008 with the building demolished a year later.
